Simple Heartburn Home Remedies
Heartburn is a problem for many people, leading to
discomfort at bedtime or after meals, and can be a chronic problem for many
people. There is a huge market for medicine for heartburn and antacids; in
fact, one of the most sold drugs in the world at one time was a drug for
treating heartburn! However, if you want to try to avoid treating your
heartburn without turning to medicines or other store-bought methods, you can
try some simple home remedies for heartburn that can help with your problem.
Remedies You Drink
Some of the best home heartburn remedies are the sorts that
you drink down. One such remedy that has been suggested is apple cider vinegar,
which sounds like a bad idea, since vinegar is also an acid. In fact, it's true
that you should be careful about how much vinegar you drink with this remedy,
but some do note that it can help.
The key here is to use organic vinegar, which is created
through enzymatic reactions by microbes, and not just any store-bought vinegar,
which is often created through factory processes. The reason is that the
enzymes present in organic apple cider vinegar help to replenish stomach acids
and help food digest, and once food is digested fully, there is a reduction in
the symptoms of heartburn.
If downing a glass of vinegar doesn't strike you as
something you want to do, go for something simpler: namely, good old water. A
glass of water can provide temporary relief from the symptoms of heartburn by
diluting the acid in your stomach, which makes it less corrosive and painful.
Of course, if your stomach's still full, then this will make the food digest
slowly and the symptoms may return shortly, but if it's one of the easiest
heartburn home remedies to take, since it's hard to find yourself in a place
with no access to water.
Careful At Bed
Some home remedies for heartburn are so simple that they
don't even require you to take anything. For instance, one good method to help
prevent or lessen the effects of heartburn is to sit up if you're in bed and
suffering from it. When you're lying down, it's easier for stomach acids to
flow out of the sphincter at the bottom of the esophagus since you're not
working against gravity, whereas if you're sitting up, there has to be a bigger
push to get the acids out of your stomach while working against the natural
pull of gravity.
Simple things like this, getting out of bed when you start
to feel the heartburn, are the best sorts of heartburn home remedies. If you
suffer from heartburn a lot, then you will eventually notice patterns like
these, and, whether alone or combined with other home heartburn remedies, can
alter your behavior and get some relief.
